Grey streaks beneath the gutter or a green film on the roofline can make the whole exterior look tired. Before arranging replacement, separate an appearance problem from a condition problem. These are the questions to ask when considering a roofline clean.
IN THIS GUIDE
What are fascias and soffits?
The fascia is the board along the roof edge, commonly behind the gutter. The soffit is the underside of the projecting roofline. They are different from the gutter channel, which carries rainwater. A quote should identify which of those surfaces will be cleaned.
Pane and Simple offers fascia and soffit washing, with an optional exterior gutter wash. Clearing leaves from inside the gutter is a separate requirement. Making that distinction early avoids comparing a simple wash with a much broader maintenance visit.
Which marks might a clean improve?
A wash can improve the appearance of accumulated surface dirt. Persistent discolouration is a different question: a mark may remain because it is part of an aged finish or damaged material, rather than removable dirt. No quote should promise that every board will return to its original colour.
Point out peeling paint, visibly loose sections, splits or suspected timber deterioration before booking. Those observations may change what work is suitable. If a repair or replacement is needed, cleaning alone will not resolve it.
How should uPVC fascias and soffits be cleaned?
Product-specific care instructions come first. Eurocell advises warm soapy water without bleaching agents and a soft cloth for its fascia and soffit products. Freefoam also describes mild detergent and water as a maintenance approach. Aggressive products are not automatically better for a stubborn mark.
Tell us whether the roofline is white uPVC, coloured or foiled material, painted timber, or something you cannot identify. If you have the installer’s paperwork, keep it available. Avoid experimenting with abrasive products on a visible section.
Want advice for your own property?
Contact Pane and Simple for a fascias & soffits quote or call 07397 179520.How often does the roofline need attention?
There is no single cleaning interval for every product and location. Follow the manufacturer’s maintenance requirements and review visible build-up. Freefoam notes that coastal locations can require more frequent cleaning; that is relevant to exposed properties, rather than every home in a coastal postcode.
For homes around Portsmouth, Havant and Chichester, tell Pane and Simple about the actual marks and exposure. A regular window-cleaning visit does not necessarily include the roofline, so request it explicitly.
What affects a fascia and soffit cleaning quote?
The total run length, building height, condition and access help define the job. Estimate the length from ground level, counting each requested run once for the fascia and soffit together. Mention sections over a conservatory, porch or neighbouring boundary.
Contact Pane and Simple with your postcode and the areas you want washed. We will discuss suitability and any exterior gutter wash you want added before confirming the quote.
More questions
Does a fascia wash unblock gutters?
No. Washing the roofline does not remove debris inside the gutter. Ask for internal gutter clearing if that is needed.
Can cleaning remove every black mark?
Not necessarily. Marks may be surface dirt, persistent staining or deterioration in the finish. The likely result depends on the material and condition.
Do I need to measure the soffit separately?
For the initial estimate, count the roofline run once for fascia and soffit together. Tell us about unusually wide sections or anything outside a standard run.
